“Coffee is not a big deal to farmers in Papua New Guinea; family is. Coffee pays for the exchanges and social obligations one had to every marriage, birth and death in their house-line or clan. Compared to the vibrant personalities of each village, the coffee trees seemed particularly boring. It made me realize that coffee from Papua New Guinea is interesting because it IS from Papua New Guinea, which is unique, diverse, and full of possibility.”
