Check Out Our Fresh Digs! Join Us For Our Grand Re-Opening.
Enjoy our fresh café with us during our Grand Re-Opening weekend, taking place February 24th and 25th! This event will mark the official unveiling of renovations that we underwent between July and November, 2017.
A few years back, we saw that our business was expanding and that a need for additional seating was needed. In addition, we knew there were many things we wanted to change in the cafe operation, and it has been a longstanding desire to add a toast bar. This renovation satisfies everything we wanted PLUS some!
Improvements:
- Espresso Bar Seating
- Banquette Seating
- Patio Seating
Expanded seating was a major part of the reconfiguration. Along with ample table seating to accommodate a growing clientele, our café now features a large section of banquette seating, equipped with multiple power ports for guests. Bar seating has also been added, providing a front-row view of the action behind the espresso bar.
A larger behind-the-bar kitchen area has made room for a larger menu of food options. In addition to a daily selection of pastries from Zingerman’s Bakehouse, we have added a new Toast Bar. The sweet and savory toast varieties currently being offered are made with ingredients from the Bakehouse and Zingerman’s Creamery as well as products sourced throughout the Zingerman’s Community.
An early bestseller is the Bulgarian Toast, made with Zingerman’s Bakehouse Sesame Semolina bread, Zingerman’s Creamery handmade Cream Cheese, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. It’s topped off with a generous spreading of Lutenitsa, a Bulgarian spread that combines roasted peppers, roasted eggplant and tomatoes.
The Grand Re-Opening festivities are open to all. Here’s a bit of what we have in store for you:
- Panama Geisha coffee – a rare, limited-release roast!
- Samples of our new toast recipes, all with ingredients sourced from within our Zingerman’s family
- The chance to win a fully-loaded coffee gift set, including a complete brewing system (Chemex brewer, filters, kettle, & scale), a bag of Panama Geisha coffee, logo tee, a travel mug
- A never-before-served barista creation and a brand new toast recipe—to be revealed and served during our Grand Re-Opening weekend only!
It’s free to RSVP, you can do so here:

We hope to see you there, and thank you endlessly for your support!
Toast at Zingerman’s Coffee Company!
All day great toast options to enjoy with your coffee.
Ari Weinzweig, CEO & Co-Founder of Zingerman’s
Big, tasty news from the Southside of town. Along with all the great, hand-brewed coffees, a bit of Bakehouse pastry and some pots of loose leaf tea, Zingerman’s Coffee Co. is now serving TOAST!! That’s right, freshly made to order, on Bakehouse breads, with pretty terrific, anything-but-everyday, toppings! They’re all delicious with a cup of coffee—I’m excited about the Costa Rica right now!
The first three toast offerings started this past week—three more will start soon! And after that . . . maybe a few more still!
- Portuguese Cinnamon Toast – I had this in Lisbon many years ago and it’s been in the back of my mind ever since. I don’t honestly know if it was unique to the café I had it at, or something that many Portuguese people eat, but I loved it and will forever associate it with my visit there. Zingerman’s Bakehouse cinnamon raison (sourdough) bread, toasted (of course) and then topped with extra virgin olive oil and an excellent cinnamon sugar made from old-school, natural Muscovado brown sugar from Mauritius, and Indonesian cinnamon.
- Bulgarian Toast – The Bakehouse’s very wonderful Sesame Semolina bread, Zingerman’s Creamery’s handmade Cream Cheese, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a generous spreading of Lutenitsa. Assuming you don’t know it, it’s a fantastic spread made of roasted peppers, roasted eggplant and tomatoes. Lutenitsa is much-loved in my house and apparently all over its homeland of Bulgaria. Everyone Bulgarian I’ve ever met tells me how good their grandmother’s was! We top the toast off with a little a bit of coarsely ground black pepper from our 5-Star Black Pepper blend! Love it!
- Teutonic Toast – The Bakehouse’s very dense and very delicious Dinkelbrot (spelt bread), sliced thinly by hand, then spread with the Creamery’s goat cream cheese, and sprinkled with Wild Uzbek Cumin seeds. Really a fantastic set of flavors!
All three toasts are available all day at the Coffee Co. so . . . you can have some for breakfast, some for lunch, for an afternoon snack or light evening meal. Or come back three times in the same day and eat all your meals with us! More terrific toasts to come soon!

To Cup From Bean, and Everything In-Between! Classes at the Coffee Co.
A fine cup of coffee is a simple pleasure, but there’s plenty of craft and consideration that our baristas pour into it.
We are pleased to share this expertise with our community of coffee lovers, with two classes offered monthly:
Comparative Cupping
Enjoy coffee samples from Africa, Central and South Americas, and the Asian Pacific. We will taste and evaluate these coffees using the techniques and tools used by professional tasters. This is an eye-opening introduction of the world of coffee.
Brewing Methods
Learn the keys to successful coffee brewing using a wide variety of brewing methods from filter drip to syphon pot. This tasting session will explore a single coffee brewed 6 to 8 different ways, each producing a unique taste. A demonstration of the proper proportions and techniques for each method and a discussion of the merits and differences of each style will take place.
Both classes are taught by Chris Glasow, who is a long time fixture here at the Zingerman’s Coffee Company. He has represented us at various competitions including the World Barista Championships (2012), Motown Throw-down (2013), World Latte Championship Open (2013), and America’s Best Espresso (2016). He brings a technical expertise to the Coffee Company; helping to design and implement our training program, and helping to improve our coffee quality not only in house, but wherever our coffee is served. Additionally, Christopher assists with coffee roasting and is a member of our front-of-house leadership team.
We have a few spots left for our June classes – sign up today!
You Can Really See The Difference!
Our café-going friends may be wondering what the heck is going on here at the Zingerman’s Coffee Company.
We’ve completed renovations to our patio space (loving the beautiful Autumn that’s allowing us to break it in..!), and have alluded to café improvements as well.
Happily, the Coffee Company has seen a big boost in café and wholesale business over the last few years. Our ever-increasing staff need space to work their magic, and at times our guests have found seating to be maxed out in the café. When our partners next door at the Zingerman’s Creamery and the Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory announced their expansion plans, we felt that we should hop on board. Over the years, we’ve embraced the wonderful feedback we’ve received from our guests, and have incorporated it into our vision.
Here’s all of the goodness that we’ll be rolling out:
- Café seating is expanding into the space where staff offices once live (we’re stretching our legs upstairs). This new space will feature a beautiful banquette, with plenty of power ports to keep your devices caffeinated.
- Front-row seating at the espresso bar, where you can enjoy our baristas performing their art.
- A Big Brew Board that is easier to navigate for our brand-new guests. We want the many possibilities that beans + brewing methods have to offer, to be approachable for all.
- Food! We’ll have even more fresh pastry options from our friends at the Bakehouse, and…
- We’re especially excited to share that we will be adding a Toast Bar, with the best ingredients sourced from throughout the Zingerman’s community. Because, can we really call ourselves ‘Zingerman’s’ if we haven’t fed you? Stay tuned for more mouth-watering info!
- And of course, no build-out is complete without new and improved restrooms:
Don’t fear! Our café will still be open for regular business hours during this process.
We will be featuring a classic drip coffee/espresso menu during this time. Your Big Brew Board favorites will be offline, but they will be back – with gusto! We’re thrilled to share our improved café and menu with you in the not-too-distant future. Thanks for your patience while we’re bettering ourselves!
P.S. Let your barista know that you did your renovation homework (i.e. read this post), and get a half-off cup of your choice of the day’s brewed coffee! Redeemable one time, and at the Zingerman’s Coffee Company exclusively.
